Mission

Our mission is to be a compassionate, educative and active Christian resource agency partnering with other like minded organizations to develop and implement appropriate, innovative and integrated programmes of care for the neglected, vulnerable and disadvantaged to enable a better quality of life, alleviate human suffering and promote peace and human wholeness with dignity

LEADS is a community development organization passionate and purposeful about reaching the most vulnerable in Sri Lanka. We address the root causes of poverty from one-off  assistance,  community capacity building and development, advocacy and development  in disaster management situations. We also have a significant focus on protecting Sri Lankan children from sexual predators and do this through ESCAPE (Eradication of Sexual Child Abuse, Prostitution and Exploitation).
Founded over 25 years ago, LEADS is a registered national agency with the Social Service Ministry and the Non Governmental Agency Secretariat. We are also a faith-based agency and an approved government charity. The Sri Lankan government recognized our excellence with 2 awards of appreciation for Tsunami Relief and shelter work and for noteworthy work in development and relief. Pre-School Teachers’ Diploma award ceremony at Veerasingham Hall, Jaffna
A truly significant milestone reflecting our country’s determined efforts to heal divisions and build lasting amity and peace took place at Veerasingham Hall, Jaffna on 7 October 2011. On this day, 21 young women rehabilitees, passed out as fully qualified pre-school teachers and were awarded their diploma certificates at a formal ceremony.The GA of Jaffna, Ms Emelda Sukumar was the Chief Guest on this special occasion. LEADS commemorates World Aids Day with students and youth
LEADS together with the American Centre, Colombo, commemorated World Aids day on December 1st by inviting 100 students and youth to participate in a special event organized  to mark the event. The invitees were exposed to presentations made by Mr. Prabu Deepan, Mr. Prathiba Perera and Ms. Princy Mangalica , all who are well versed and working in the field on Hiv/AIDS awareness. An interesting Q&A session followed the event, which also ended with the invites pledging to protect themselves from Hiv and AIDS and working towards reducing the stigma attached to the diseases. Floods in Northern and Southern Districts- November 2011
Heavy rains and gale force winds killed at least 22 people and left more than 43 people missing when storms packing very heavy rain and gusty winds lashed the island at the end of November. More than 66,000 people were affected as the storms continued to devastate the areas. The authorities launched searches for survivors among the fishermen who were reported missing. Both southern and northern Sri Lanka depend on monsoon rains for irrigation and power generation but the ferocity of this weather destroyed paddy fields and brought down power lines disrupting the supply of electricity to many districts. LEADS New Building
This building is a testimony of God’s eternal faithfulness to LEADS, who serve His cause in this nation and is dedicated today to God, for His glory and honour 25th May 2011- We woke up this morning to heavy grey skies and thunder storms- and torrential rain. But yesterday was very different- it was LEADS’ day- sunshine and blue skies ....and frantic activity at 25 Hospital Road, Dehiwela. This was the day for the official ‘opening’- Thanksgiving service and Dedication of our new head office building. LEADS Flood Relief Efforts Update -situation-report-20th-february-2011
Highlights and Key Prioritiesa) More displaced people continue to make their way home in the wake of receding floodwaters in the Eastern, Northern and North‐Central Provinces. However the authorities remain on alert for an increase in rainfall that could trigger fresh floods and displacement. b)  Communities hit by the floods need significant assistance in terms of clean water, non‐food items (NFIs), basic common shelters and food. Recovery activities are also beginning to focus on rehabilitation of houses, damaged irrigation infrastructure and livelihoods.
